Medical Records Clerk

Description

A Medical Records Clerk serves as the liason between patient and medical support staff. They are responsible for the organization and distribution of medical records for the practice. Applicants should be be able to multi-task and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. They are expected to have strong computer skills and strong attention to detail. This is a great opportunity for professionals who are familiar with medical records work procedures.


Responsibilities

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

•   Greeting patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner

•   Completing chart preparation in advance for appointments

•   Checking patients in; verifying and updating necessary information, and collecting co-pays when the receptionist not available

•   Filing medical histories and other information in the proper order, following department guidelines

•   Locating and sending charts to requesting physicians/departments

•   Copying and mailing medical records as per requests from other offices, or for subpoenaed records

•   Preparing reports for doctor’s signatures to be faxed and mailed to surgery center


Experience

One year work experience in a medical office setting preferred

Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus
