Mammography Technician
Description
Mammography Technicians are responsible for operating radiologic equipment to make clinical diagnostic X-ray films as directed by physicians. Mammography Technicians are expected to have a good understanding of body mechanics/patient movement, as well as the safety hazards common to radiology. They work closely with patients and perform diagnostic procedures. Applicants must be able to follow instructions and standardized work practices and communicate clearly, as well as establishing and maintaining effective relationships with staff, patients, and families.
Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Preparing patients for radiologic procedures
• Instructing patients regarding procedures and observing vital signs during examination
• Taking x-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety
• Developing and processing radiologic film
• Examining radiologic film for properties such as density and contrast, definition, magnification and distortion
• Ensuring equipment is in working order; reporting any equipment malfunctions to supervisor
• Recording radiologic procedures in logs
• Maintaining examination rooms; stocking necessary medical and radiologic supplies
Experience
One year of experience as a radiologic technologist preferred
License/Certification
Current ARRT certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
