Cytology Technician

Description

We are seeking a Cytology Technician to help serve the medical community in our pathology laboratory in Berkeley. Cyto Techs are generally responsible for staining, mounting, and studying cells to detect cancerous and other pathological conditions. To perform the job succecssfully, you should demonstrate competency in problem solving and exercising initiative. Applicants should be able to work independently, as well as establish an effective working relationship with patients and the medical staff. This is a great opportunity for professionals with excellent customer service and computer skills.


Responsibilities

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

•   Receiving and collecting specimens, body materials, and fluids from patients

•   Mounting, staining, and examining smears

•   Distinguishing cellular material for pathologist's review

•   Preparing and analyzing new specimens for changes in cells

•   Performing quality control checks of instruments, solutions, and test results against established standards

•   Preparing reports and maintaining files and records according to guidelines of regulatory agencies

•   Teaching appropriate techniques to aides and assistants


Experience

Minimum of six months experience in a medical practice setting


License/Certification

Certification as a Cyto Technician (ASCP)
